#NBW3: The Ward 3 Project

Welcome to #NBW3: The Ward 3 Project!

#NBW3: The Ward 3 Project is a grassroots initiative designed to ignite meaningful civic engagement, encourage good neighborhood practices and create a sense of place and identity in New Bedford’s Ward 3.

The Ward 3 Project is being launched by Beth Santos-Fauteux and Steven Froias. In addition to both being residents of Ward 3 in New Bedford, both are heavily involved in a number of community activities throughout the city.

Santos-Fauteux serves on the city’s Human Relations Commission and is a well known member of the Destination Soups team. In 2016, she began a dialogue with Ward 3 residents when she ran for a City Council seat.

Froias writes a popular series of columns for the coworking facility, Groundwork! There, he co-founded the New Bedford Bookfest and has also been involved in the city’s arts community and other neighborhood initiatives, like Love The Ave.

Both hope to enlist many other residents in #NBW3: The Ward 3 Project. From the streets up, they believe our neighborhoods can become better urban places to pursue individual dreams and achieve collective goals.

So, if you’re reading this, “Like” and follow The Ward 3 Project via the Facebook page New Bedford Now. Through that page, news about the Ward 3 Project will be posted as well as fun and useful items of interest.

Importantly, please share the page with your own Facebook followers by inviting friends, family and neighbors to give it a “Like,” too – especially Ward 3 residents but also all of New Bedford. Use the hashtag #NBW3 when you post on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to help build an online community.

One of the ways we’ll go about building an actual sense of community is the creation of a Ward 3 Asset Map. An asset map is the collection of all that’s good, useful, necessary, needed and valued in your neighborhood. Use that Post Office box by Fire Station No. 7? That’s an asset – as, of course, is the station itself! So are our schools, places of worship and business establishments.

You’ll read more about how you can contribute to the #NBW3 Asset Map as well as find a role in the entire Ward 3 Project on this website, NewBedfordNow.com in a special series of blog posts by Froias. You’ll know when they’re posted because you’re following the page, Facebook.com/NewBedfordNow!

For now, we’d just like to welcome you to the start of this new adventure  – #NBW3: The Ward 3 Project. After we’ve spread the word, we’ll plan to get together. Until then, “Like,” “Share,” and tell your neighbors about #NBW3 at Facebook.com/NewBedfordNow.

Our journey begins there and now…
